Acie "Sonny" Hunter

Funeral services for Acie “Sonny” Hunter, age 85, of Emory, will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend W.R. Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Emory. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Marquise Champion, Wallace Jackson Jr., Otae Estes, Wayne Lewis, Christopher Anderson and Joshua Williams.  Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Tell, Otha Jackson Jr., Jo Mack Porter and Tim Jackson. Family requests that mask be worn at all times during services.

Acie “ Sonny” was born on July 14, 1935 to Edward and Helen Stephens in Elmo, Texas. He passed on April 21, 2021, at his home in Emory.

He married Sherry Ann Jackson on July 17, 1999, in Emory, Texas.  He was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church, Lions Club and Emory Alcoholic Anonymous for 25 years.

Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughters, Margaret Taylor and husband Lesley, Helen Bailey and husband Jeff, Lovie Coney, Charlotte Steenson and husband Steve; stepson, Roy Tell and wife Pam; stepdaughters, Wendy Rodriguez,  Shalanda Bensinger and husband Antoine; brothers, Charles Hunter, Travis Hunter, Fred Hunter; sisters, Margie Frazier, Jannie Mae Stephens and husband Roy, Ruthie Jackson, Luverta Mae Hunter; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents; sisters, Jewel Lewis and Thressa Hunter; sons, Edwin Robinson and Acie Jr. Tell and grandson Tavares Tell.
