A memorial service for Ann Zene Cathey will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Emory Church of Christ, 715 W. Lennon Drive, Emory, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation prior to the memorial service beginning at 12:45. A private family burial service at the Quitman Cemetery will follow.
Ann Zene Cathey passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born on November 12, 1937, in Canton, Texas to J.C. and El Freda (Cartwright) Anderson. Ann Zene was a graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas earning a Master of Education degree. She married the love of her life, Emery Cathey, on June 3, 1960. They were married for more than 64 years.
Ann Zene was a dedicated and accomplished teacher for 30 years. She began her career teaching business subjects in Crandall and continued in Quinlan at Boles Home before moving to Rains County. There, she taught first grade for eleven years before transitioning to Junior High English. As a long-time member of the Emory Church of Christ, Ann Zene taught various children’s bible classes and ladies’ bible class. She loved all pets, especially her dogs. She delighted in serving others. No one ever left Ann Zene’s home still hungry. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an amazing grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved husband Emery of Allen, Texas; daughter, Angela Smith and husband, Gerry of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Cartwright Cathey, Claire Cathey, Madeline Smith and Daniel Smith and his wife, Kyra; her brother Johnny Anderson and his wife, Becke; and numerous other family and friends.
Ann Zene was preceded in death by her son, Coby Cathey, and her parents, J.C. and El Freda Anderson.
