Betty Lou Lathrop, 87, of Emory, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Graveside service for Betty will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas on Friday, March 14, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home on Wednesday evening 6-8 PM. Betty Lou Lathrop was born January 16, 1927 to Albert and Georgia Jones Cameron in Dallas. She married Lilburn Lathrop and he passed away in 1972. Her first job was an elevator operator at Dallas Power and Light, who then advanced her to keypunch operator, then to data processing. She then went to school to advance her education in data processing. After working hard all her life she retired as a data operator. She was a member of and she worked at the VFW Club and was Secretary for them for awhile and she won lots of awards from them. She had lots of friends at the Dallas VFW Club and enjoyed karaoke and dancing and just having a good time. She loved life and enjoyed it to it's fullest. She was known to many as her alias, Betty Boop. She is survived by her daughter Helene Lathrop of Emory. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
