Billy Wayne Evans passed away on June 4, 2023, at the age of 79. Billy was born on January 29, 1944, in Modesto, California to William Douglas Evans and Dora Francis.
Billy was a United States Army Veteran and served in both Korea and Vietnam. During his time in the service, Billy was praised by many for his dedicated work ethic and proven leadership skills. He was wounded while serving in Vietnam and awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his service.
Billy was a prominent figure in the commercial roofing industry as Vice President of Gideon Roofing, owner of Phoenix Roofing, of Dallas, TX, and co-owner of Empire Roofing where he was based out of Memphis, TN. Billy enjoyed being a part of the commercial roofing community. He was proud to have served as an officer in the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), North Texas Roofing Contractors Association (NTRCA), Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT), and many other trade organizations.
Billy loved the outdoors and often spent time hunting and fishing. He participated in numerous fishing competitions and loved to be out on the lake. When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, Billy could usually be found hanging out with friends and family. Billy was often described as having an outstanding sense of humor and continuously brought joy to the lives of so many people.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Erica Tahbonemah and husband Ken, son William Evans, son Jimmy Bowen, granddaughters, Lauren Trayler and husband Bryan, Aiyanna Tahbonemah, and Emma Tahbonemah, as well as one great-granddaughter, Eleanor Trayler.
Billy’s family extended to friends as well, he loved and spoke highly about Ronnie and Kim McGlothlin, Tommy Milam, Eddie Harrison, Ben Koonce, Harmon Gilmore, and Dick Baxter.
Billy is preceded in death by the love of his life, Carole Evans, his parents William Douglas Evans and Dora (Francis) Moore, and sister and brother-in-law Virginia and George Hearn.
Billy has left behind an amazing legacy and will be fondly remembered by those who loved him for his huge heart and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Operation Smile and/or The Wounded Warrior Project in Billy’s memory.
