Carolyn June Potts, age 80, of Emory, passed away on Monday, August 1st, at her home in Emory, surrounded by her family and loving caretakers. Carolyn was born February 2, 1942, in Greenville, Tx, to George & Faye Varnon Melton.
Carolyn married her husband of 60 years, Leroy Potts on August 4, 1962. Carolyn taught school for 36 years, the majority of those at Rains Elementary in Emory. Along with teaching school, she and Leroy established Potts Gas Company in 1968. Her longest devotion was to her church, Emory Baptist Church, where she served as pianist and organist for 65 years. “Mrs. Potts” touched many lives in Emory, teaching multiple generations. Her faith was apparent in all she did.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, George and Faye Melton.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Potts, of Emory; Son Brennan Potts & wife, Michele of Emory; Daughter Melanie Potts Baker & husband, Joel, of Tyler; Brother Wayne Melton & wife Jeanette, of Emory; and the 7 loves of her life, her grandchildren, Weston Potts & wife Lexie, Cortney Lynn & husband Dan, Collin Eenigenburg, Kennedy Potts, Coleman Baker, Mallory Baker, and Griffin Baker; two great-grandchildren, Blakeleigh Potts and Blaire Lynn. And for the past 3 years, her loving caretakers Millie Crews and Sonia Broils, who loved and cared for her as family.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life and service will be held, Thursday, August 4th, at 11:00 am, at Emory Baptist Church, with Bro. Richard Piles officiating.
