J.D. Richards, of Point, Texas, died on February 12, 2022, in Emory, Texas. He passed away peacefully after a courageous battle against cancer and kidney failure. He was 84 years old.
J.D. was born on November 27, 1937, in Okemah, Oklahoma. He graduated at Fairfax High School in Oklahoma in 1956. Immediately after high school, he joined the US Navy. Upon leaving the Navy, he joined the reserves for a two-year period. Just before leaving the Navy, he married the love of his life, Linda Kay Stephens, on June 9th, 1962. Together they had two children, Lisa Richards Chapman and Eric Richards.
J.D. was a hard worker and had a very strong work ethic. He had many jobs during his lifetime. He was a jack of many trades. He worked for Collins Radio for many years and got to travel many places all over the world. He once started his own garage in Garland, where he worked on cars. He then left that business and went to work in the oil fields with his father doing drilling and completion and some consulting. After retiring, he did repairs and remodels on homes.
J.D. loved to help others. He worked on many cars for family and friends. He loved to go exploring with his metal detectors to find buried treasures. He loved to fish, garden, and spend time with his friends Oren and Linda Northcutt and Joe and Carla Fisher. He loved to sit on his back patio and visit with his daughter-in-law, Lorretta Richards. He loved his granddaughters Amber Chapman and Christian Page very much, and was always tickled to talk and laugh with his great-granddaughters Brenleigh and Paisley Hines. He had many nieces and nephews from all around the country that he loved dearly.
J.D. was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Richards; his father, Thomas H. Richards and Mother, Vinita Richards.
J.D. is survived by his sister, Linda Welch in Colorado; daughter, Lisa Richards Chapman from Richardson TX; son, Eric Richards from Emory TX; granddaughters Amber Chapman from Richardson TX, and Christian Page from Emory TX; two great-grandchildren, Brenleigh and Paisley Hines from Emory TX.
