James was born on May 21, 1931, to Ottis and Ollie May Newman Woodson. He was the grandson of George Edward Woodson and Carrie Newman Woodson. James retired after 20 years of working at Walker McDonald in Greenville and he retired from the Rains County Recycle Department after 19 years.
He is survived by 4 sisters, Odessa, Billie, Shirley and Foye; 3 children, daughter, Mary Strickland and husband, Ric of Princeton; son, James Ray Woodson and wife Gloria of Greenville; daughter, Donna Burdette of Greenville and nephew, David. His grandchildren, Zack and wife Jackie, James and wife Carmen, Matt and wife Amberly, Sam, Amanda and husband Brad, Chris and wife Natalee. James has twelve great grandchildren, Andrew, Emma and husband Christopher, Camryn and husband Brenton, Kobe, Bella, Joshua, Jocelyn, Cali, Colton, Jaxon, Hayden and Eli. He has one great-great grandson, Jack Matthew Funcheon.
James was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents; wife, Nita; sister, Norma Grace; brothers, Bud and Fred; son-in-law, Richard and nephew, Kenneth.
He was a lifetime member of Point Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed helping people, spending time with friends and his beloved dog Ju-Ju.
