John "Marvin" Northcutt, age 91, of Emory, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Smyrna Union Church in Rains County with Bro. Montie L. Parker, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Smyrna Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM.

Marvin was born on January 31, 1923 in Van Zandt County to Alex and Panthea Read Northcutt. He married Frances "Dude" Harrell in Emory, Texas on December 24, 1941.
Mr. Northcutt lived most of his life and attended school in and near the Dunbar, Smyrna, and Rocky Point communities. He was a carpenter and home builder/remodeler and had served as building inspector for the City of Emory since 1997. Additionally, he served on and chaired multiple boards including South Rains Water Supply Corporation, Smyrna Cemetery Association, and Rocky Point Community Center. He was member of American Legion Post 156, Rains County Historical Society, and Farmers Market Association. He was a charter member of Chubby's and Sidekick's Restaurants "Information Exchange Table". He was named Citizen of the Year in January 2005 from the Rains County Lions Club. He was actively involved in many other community and volunteer activities.
Survivors include a son: Jasper Northcutt of Emory, three daughters: Alice Northcutt of Springfield, MO; Virginia Northcutt of Emory, and Avis Huizar, and husband, Chio, of Emory; two brothers, David "Bud" Northcutt and wife, Joyce, and Oren Northcutt, and wife, Linda, of Emory; four sisters, Violet High of Mesquite, Hazel Hashop of Florida, Nola Royal of Wills Point, and Nelda Paschall of Mesquite; four grandchildren, Toni Gambill, and husband, Roger o Leonard, TX, Teresa Huiar of Washington, DC, Christina Huizar of Austin, and John Huizar of Austin; two great-grandsons, James Moon and JonMarc Moon both of Altus, OK.
Preceded by his wife: Frances "Dude" Northcutt, parents; one brother: James (Jim) Northcutt and five sisters: Adell Northcutt, age 4, Sybil Nail, Vera Byram, Reba Daily and Nellie Frances Northcutt (infant).
