Leaton Ely

July 25, 1934 — November 26, 2015

Memorial service for Leaton Isaac Ely, age 81, of Emory, will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM, at Emory Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at 1:00 PM. Bro. Mark Garrett will officiate.

Mr. Ely was born on July 25, 1934, to Otto Barden and Alma Shipley Ely. He was raised in Rains County, where he attended school. He was a star basketball player at Rains High School where he received a basketball scholarship from Paris Junior College.

Mr. Ely worked and retired from Raytheon in Greenville...all the while operating his dairy farm, and working some horses. After retiring, he could put all his time into his passion, that being horses. Leaton raised, bought, sold, and trained horses. From training cutting horses, roping horses, barrel horses, anything to do with horses. He was a very patient man, which showed in his love affair with horses.

Leaton was a devout Christian. He attended Emory Baptist Church for years, and, later at Bright Star Baptist Church.

Survivors include:
2 Sons: William Bryan Ely, and wife, Angie, of Paris, and
Barry Leon Ely, and wife, Christy, of Emory;
2 Sisters: Vernell Rodgers of Quitman, and
Eda Carter of Grand Prairie;
Grandchildren: Callie Marie, Ryon, Garret, Logan, Lyle, Courtney, and Nikki;
Many other loving family and numerous, numerous loving friends;
Also, his horse, of almost 30 years, "Ole Yeller"

Preceded by: Parents; 1 son: James Lennon Ely; 1 brother: Otto Ely, Jr.; and 5 sisters: Veta, Vena, Beatreas, Reba, and Vadean

Cremation and service arrangements under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home of Emory.
