A funeral service will be held for Velma Louise York on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 11 A.M. at Wilson Orwosky Chapel in Emory, Texas. Interment will follow at Hooker Ridge Cemetery in Lone Oak, Texas.

Velma Louise York, born on February 28, 1940 to Loyd Mack and Bessie Mae Steen (Stapleton) in Lone Oak, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Louise was a remarkable woman known for her loving and caring nature. She spent her life dedicated to taking care of her family, always putting their needs above her own. She was the type of person who would do anything for anyone, with a gentle and kind spirit that touched many lives.

Louise had a passion for gardening and was often found in her garden before sunrise, picking okra to prepare a warm and filling breakfast for her grandson as they got ready for school. Her garden flourished under her care, truly showcasing her green thumb. Alongside her love for plants, her roses in particular, she adored her chickens and enjoyed sharing her love for horses; always eager to saddle up a for a ride. She also had a love for children and would often open her home to babysit for friends and family.

Louise was married to Joseph York, the love of her life, for 60 wonderful years until his passing. Together, they created a warm and loving home filled with laughter and joy. She was known for her sweet and funny personality, making her a dear friend to everyone she met. As the best mom, she took great pride in her family, and her proudest accomplishments were the bonds she built with her loved ones, her beautiful garden, and the delicious meals she cooked.

Louise York will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love and care will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Mary Jo York, Billy York and Virginia Moss, Sue Essary; sister, Bessie Mae Whitson, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Louise is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Joseph York; parents, Loyd Mack and Bessie Mae Steen (Stapelton); daughter, Barbara York Perry, as well as four brothers and three sisters.
