A memorial service for Norma Jean Fleming will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Richland Baptist Church in Point.
Norma Jean Fleming was born in Durham, North Carolina on November 6, 1952 to the parentage of John Henry Fleming, II and Bessie Virginia Fleming. She graduated high school and lived for a time in Rhode Island before moving to East Texas and settling in Rains County.
For many years, Norma took great pride in her work as a cook at Senior Suite Care & Rehab helping to meet the nutritional needs of the elderly residents who lived there. For a time, these residents included H. T. Turner, the father of her long-time life partner, Mark Turner.
Upon retiring, Norma dedicated much of her time to gardening. She was well known for her canning skills, and her canned goods were generously shared with her community and others. The garden of collard, mustard and turnip greens she planted and nurtured each fall until recently was legendary, and Norma shared the bounty it produced with family, friends and others in surrounding cities and towns as far away as Dallas.
Norma loved animals, particularly dogs, and you could always find one of two well-fed and loved pets in and around her home. These pets thrived under her care.
Norma departed this life on February 23, 2021. She is preceded in death by her father, mother and one sister, Debbie Ann Eldridge. She is survived by her long-time life partner, Mark Turner; two children, Jason of Texas and Jessica of Kentucky; one brother, John Henry Fleming III (Jackie) of Brooksville, Florida; one sister, Brenda Bornsteine of Kaufman, Texas: and numerous other family members and friends.
