Funeral service for Orvil Glyn Briggs, 88, of Point, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory. A full Masonic service will be conducted by Shiloh Lodge #307 of Lone Oak. The American Legend will conduct the graveside service at Lone Star Cemetery in Point.
Mr. Briggs died during the early hours of the morning, Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
Mr. Briggs was born October 14, 1925, in Point, to Thurman J. and Leona Pearl Spencer Briggs.
He married Clodell Cason, in Alba, January 18, 1947.
Mr. Briggs proudly served his country during WWII aboard the USS Kaskaskia in the Pacific.
Mr. Briggs served as past Worshipful Master of Shiloh Lodge #807, of Lone Oak. Also, he was past Worthy Patron of Chapter 853 of Eastern Star, of Lone Oak.
He served on numerous committees, and boards of directors in the City of Point such as: Water Board; Trustee at Rains School; Point City Council; Board of Point Housing Authority; Official Board of Directors for the Point United Methodist Church, choir member, and Sunday School teacher for the couples class; and, also, served on the Cemetery Committee for Lone Star Cemetery in Point, among other positions serving to help Point through the years.
Pallbearers will be: Mark Henson, Marvin Henson, Dustin Briggs, Jerry Carlisle, Ben Rabe, Gary Thomas, and Tim Clem.
Survivors include: Wife, Clodell Briggs of Point; 1 son, Glyn Micheal Briggs (Vicki) of Burmingham, AL; 2 brothers, Buddy Briggs of Branson, MO, and Robert Briggs (Pat) of Dallas; 3 sisters, Maxine Sherwood of Wylie, Margie Shinpaugh (Ray) of Celina, and Peggy Clem of Miller Grove; Grandchildren: Damon Michael Briggs (Amber), Darrell Sherman Briggs (Jaime), and Colleen Michelle Ramero; 1 Great-Granddaughter, Adelyn Elizabeth Briggs; his faithful companion, Queenie; and numerous other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Ervin, Earl, Raymond, Rayford, and James Harold; and 1 sister, Bobbie Jean Dodson
