Rodney, or more commonly known as “RG”, a dedicated rancher and loved member of the community, passed away on August 22, 2024. He was born on October 25, 1952, to Floyd and Peggy Greene and married Lou Ann Greene on December 29, 1972.
He was a proud graduate of Rains High School and after graduation, he and Lou Ann made their forever home in Emory, Texas where they raised 2 daughters, and eventually, added 6 grandkids to the family, whom he loved with all his heart. Rodney’s spirit was characterized by a dry personality and a man of few words, but those who knew him just understood that “what you see, is what you get” when he was around.
Rodney’s career as a rancher and cattle buyer reflected his lifelong commitment to agriculture and the land that he loved. He also took great pride in his role as a former rodeo stock producer, contributing to the rodeo culture in Texas. His dedication to these pursuits was matched only by his passion for coon hunting, a hobby that saw him celebrated as a two-time world champion coon hunter. His love for the outdoors, cattle, and hunting enriched not only his life, but the ones around him.
Family was by far Rodney’s proudest achievement. He was devoted to his wife, Lou Ann, of 51 years and cherished his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was watching them play sports, show pigs, and doing whatever they asked him to do at any time of day. He loved to brag on them every morning at the Y’all Come Back Café just to make sure everyone else knew how great they really were. His presence and unconditional love will be forever cherished by the ones he leaves behind.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Lou Ann; daughters, Kandi Oakes and husband, Keith, Kylie Bell and husband, Brandon; his father, Floyd Greene; his sister, Teresa Northcutt and husband, Ricky; grandchildren, Chanlee & Cambree Oakes, Hayden, Addison, & Case Fuller, and Braddox Bell; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Greene, and his brother, Steve Greene.
