He was a member of Mensa International.  He attained both a law degree and a nursing degree, showcasing his dedication to learning and his desire to make a meaningful difference in multiple fields.  Sam was also a lifetime master bridge player.

However, it was not just Sam's professional achievements that defined him as an exceptional individual; it was his remarkable character. Those who knew him best would remember him as kind-hearted and caring, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer comforting words. His compassion extended beyond the boundaries of his profession; he would go out of his way to assist even the smallest creatures — once, pulling over just to help a turtle safely cross the road.

Furthermore, he was a lifelong lover of pugs, with Puggy Sue holding a special place in his heart.
