Sammy Ray Potts, of Emory, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019, at his home in Mesquite, TX. He passed in peace surrounded by his wife and loving family. He was born on March 10, 1938, in Rains County to Gladys Potts and Joseph Elmer (Cotton) Potts.
He enlisted in the Army from 1954 to 1959. After the Army, he worked as a heavy machine operator and then went on to become
Deputy Sheriff of Rains County during the late 60s and into the 70s. He was a Reserved Deputy until 1995.
He worked for Ferrell Construction over 25 years and Housley Communications over 10 years.
He loved the outdoors and planting in his vegetable garden. He also loved his animals and trained his horses (Rex and Amy). to kiss him on the cheek. He had llamas, chickens, cows and some long horns. You could always find Sammy with a cup of coffee or riding on his tractor.
He was a very loving and caring husband. He married Nona Renee Finch in 1997. They were married for 23 years. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
